Learn about Mexican letterpress history

Join author, designer, and educator Belinda Ugalde Mellado for an online presentation and discussion about her book Imprenta Enlace: A tradition in Mexican letterpress posters. Belinda and Juan Carlos Romero, second generation printer at Imprenta Enlace, will participate in a Q&A following the presentation to discuss the book and the importance of teaching Mexican letterpress heritage in design.

Imprenta Enlace, in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico has been printing letterpress posters for over 35 years. The endearing aesthetics of their work have contributed to the visual identity of numerous and varied events in the region, ranging from Lucha Libre, sports, dances and patron saint festivities, to art exhibitions and rock concerts. This is the story and work of Esteban and Juan Carlos Romero, father and son, who with talent, love and perseverance  have managed to keep alive the craft of the Mexican poster printed with movable type.

Belinda Ugalde Mellado is an educator at the Universidad Anáhuac Veracruz and a freelance graphic designer based in Xalapa, México. Her projects include visual identity, books, and posters focused on social and cultural themes. She has developed handmade books and is currently researching contemporary letterpress printing in Mexico and its educational applications.
