Long-Distance Letterpress: Demystifying the Windmill
Why you should take this class
The Heidelberg Windmill is beautiful, precise, durable, versatile, and almost inexplicably affordable to acquire and maintain. Yet many letterpress printers remain hesitant to bring one onto the floor, even when their volumes and projects justify it. Let veteran printer Jami Heinricher lift away the mists surrounding this powerful and initially intimidating machine. Could this wonderful press be for you?
What you’ll learn
In our two hours together, Jami will break down each of the Heidelberg Windmill’s four print-control systems: automatic feed, registration, impression, and inking. Jami will demonstrate how this press can be tuned up to make perfect, consistent prints at speed. You’ll come away with a new understanding of:
- Situations where the Heidelberg Windmill excels
- Situations where it doesn’t
- How to evaluate a press for sale
- Safety considerations
- Proper training
All participants will receive a detailed handout, which will surely come in handy should you decide to take the plunge!
This workshop consists of a demonstration and interactive Q&A, with no advance preparation or supplies necessary to participate.
