Why you should take this class

Heather Moulder is one of the most playful letterpress printers around. She’s known for printing the winningest posters from the world’s weirdest objects. Flowers, tape, toast, candy, shoes—you name it. Break your monotonous pressroom routine without breaking your equipment. After two hours with Heather, this online workshop will leave you saying “YES, I can print that.”

What you’ll learn

Through experimental surfaces and found-object printing, we’ll explore unconventional ways to create line, shape, and texture. We will start by viewing a collection of finished letterpress printed pieces that incorporate experimental methods. We’ll talk about how these special effects were accomplished, and how you can recreate them. We’ll finish by demoing a few techniques in real time, accommodating questions or even requests, if possible. Things we’ll cover:

  • Approaches for making objects/surfaces printable
  • Press safety when experimenting with found objects
  • Making experimental results repeatable
  • Troubleshooting
  • Using Sintra board as a printing matrix

Prerequisites

This workshop consists of a live demonstration and interactive Q&A, with no advance preparation or supplies necessary to participate.

Who should take this class?

This workshop will be fun for all levels of experience, but will be especially interesting to those with a basic understanding of letterpress printing (particularly on a cylinder press).
